News > Condos in Summerlin Getting Some Company
published on 2014-09-20
Summerlin is already the place to be if you’re in the market for a Las Vegas condo but don't want to live on the strip. Named after Howard Hughes’ grandmother, Amelia Summerlin, this thriving, upscale master-planned community is nestled up against the Spring Mountains and offers 22,500 acres of newer, mixed-use development and majestic views.
Some of the highest priced condos in the greater Las Vegas area have made their home in Summerlin. One Queensridge Place, for example, is an elegant Art Nouveau style high-rise condo community just across the street from the Suncoast Resort. This luxury residence tower houses 385 distinctive units as well as a long list of top-tier amenities including a rooftop sun deck, indoor lap pool, private wine cellar and theatre.
There are more than 150 miles of completed trails in Summerlin that are complemented by nearly 150 strategically placed parks. Many of these parks are “pocket parks” designed to augment the different neighborhoods that make up Summerlin. About two dozen of them, however, are large enough to accomodate recreational amenities like basketball and tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, and community pools and play areas.
Recently, the Howard Hughes Corporation, purchaser of the original 25,000 acres more than 60 years ago, announced its plans to invest even more in Summerlin by entering into a joint venture with Discovery Land Company (a world leader in developing luxe communities and private clubs) to create what it described as “an unparalleled living experience” in Summerlin. This new luxury community will consist of 555 acres of the area’s most secluded and scenic land, immediately south of The Ridges, a custom home community in Summerlin. Development is expected to commence on this exclusive resort community in mid-2015 with the first home and lot sales later that same year. First class ammenities will include a private Tom Fazio-designed golf course and state-of-the-art fitness center and spa.
Howard Hughes Corp CEO David R. Weinreb said, “This partnership will bring Summerlin an exclusive luxury residential destination that will attract discerning home buyers from all over the country.” Discovery Land Chairman and CEO said, “Nothing like this yet exists in Las Vegas.”
Summerlin’s newest luxury community will be located close to downtown Summerlin, a new 400-acre city center with a mix of residential, office, shopping, dining and entertainment options designed with the walker in mind. Though the plan is not yet finalized, it will most certainly include some great urban condo homes.
We’re excited to be part of this growth. If you want to live in Summerlin now, there are some wonderful condo choices available. Consider the homes at Summerlin Village. These two- and three-story townhome-style residences are located in west Las Vegas and have the Red Rock National Conservation Area in their backyards. Owners enjoy mountain and city views, a community pool, golf, tennis courts and a clubhouse.
